American actress born in South Bend, Washington, on January 6, 1907. She was married twice and had a child. She is known for Seven Days in May (1964), Magnificent Obsession (1954), and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982). She began acting on stage in Portland in the late twenties, attended the Ellison White Conservatory of Music, and then joined the radio station in Portland. She began working in television programs in 1949 and stopped acting and taught drama in college, and she returned to acting again in cinema. Her first work was Kansas City Confidential (1952), and her last work was A Walton Easter (1997). She died in Los Angeles, on December 28, 2003, at the age of 96.
