A Dutch actor, born in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam, to Dutch actor Louis van Dreelen Gimberg and the Countess de Labouchere. He appeared in cinema and television from the sixties to the eighties and was the first Dutch actor to appear on Dutch television. He portrayed French and German characters in Hollywood and American characters in Germany and France. John Van Dreelen married five women and had one child. Among his most important works are The Lech Woman (1960), Brelan d'as (1952), 13 Ghosts (1960), and Topaz (1969). He studied at the Sorbonne University in France and was fluent in Dutch, English, French, German, and Italian. His career was interrupted during World War II, due to the German invasion of the Netherlands, and he escaped from a labor camp by disguising himself as a German officer, a role he later played in cinema and television. John Van Dreelen appeared in many European films and dozens of American television shows. He also worked in European and American theaters. He died in Cap d'Agde, Hérault, France, on September 4, 1992, at the age of 70.
