British stage and film actor, born in London, on August 3, 1900. He got married to Emma Trekman, who stayed with him until his death. He began his career in the era of silent cinema, and continued to work after the entry of sound to films. He served in the Royal Air Force During World War II. Among his notable works are: Johnny in the Clouds (1945), A Christmas Carol (1951), Marigold (1938) and The Fan (1949). He died in Chicago, USA, on April 30, 1987.
