English actor, he was born in England, on April 9, 1909. He appeared in nearly 80 films in three decades. He worked as a private teacher and then as an ambulance driver during World War II, and after the war he chose acting, and won a scholarship to the Central School for Speech and Drama in London. After he made the 1978 movie Revenge of the Pink Panther, he had a stroke, which forced him to retire. Among his important works are: No Trace (1950), John of the Fair (1954), The Avengers (1968), and The Frightened Man (1952). He died in Ladbroke Grove, London, on November 8, 1997.
