A Taiwanese actor, writer, and director, born on August 5, 1952, in Ruifang Township, Taipei County, Taiwan. His works include A Borrowed Life (1994), Buddha Bless America (1996), and Wu yan de shan qiu (1992). He set the record for winning the most Golden Horse Awards to date, including one for his work on Song of the Exile (1990), directed by internationally acclaimed Hong Kong director Ann Hui. His film A Borrowed Life (1994) won the Prize of the City of Torino for Best Feature Film at the Torino International Festival of Young Cinema in Italy. It also won the FIPRESCI/NETPAC Award at the 1995 Singapore International Film Festival.
