An American actor, born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA. He was married to the actress Courteen Landis (1947-1973) and remained with her until his death. He graduated from Indiana University with a law degree, and worked as a lawyer, before turning to acting, where he worked at the Pasadena Playhouse and the Broadway theatre. In the early 1940s, he worked in cinema, performing additional and then supporting roles, but he achieved greater success on television. He was a lifelong member of the Actor’s Studio. He is known for North by Northwest (1959), Bang the Drum Slowly (1973), and Party Girl (1958). He died in New York City, USA, on July 6, 1973, at the age of 63.
