Ukrainian-American actor born in Kosovo, Ukraine on January 8, 1910. His size enabled him to play the roles of sailors, waiters and soldiers in the thirties, as he was able to wear costumes and masks of animals, such as the winged monkey in The Wizard of Oz. He became close with Mickey Rooney, who used him in all of his films, and when Rooney's business ran out in the mid-fifties, Sage found work elsewhere. Among his most important are: Andy Hardy Comes Home (1958), Clue (1985), and Mickey (1964). He retired in 1989 until he died. He died in Los Angeles, of pneumonia on September 30, 2005 at the age of 95.
