An American singer and actress, born in Brooklyn, New York, USA, on May 2, 1946, as Lesley Sue Goldstein. She was nominated for an Academy Award in 1981 for Best Music, Original Song and for a Grammy Award three times. Her Jewish father was a manufacturer of children's underwear and swimwear. She attended the Dwight School for Girls in nearby Englewood and studied drama and American literature at Sarah Lawrence College. She began singing at the age of 17 and was discovered by legendary producer Quincy Jones. She later worked as an actress and television personality. In 2005, she announced that she was a lesbian and had been in a relationship with luxury jewelry designer Lois Sasson since 1982. She's known for Suicide Squad (2016) and Mermaids (1990). She died in Manhattan, New York City, USA, on February 16, 2015, of lung cancer.
