Australian actor, director, and screenwriter born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on August 27, 1925 as Edward Sidney Devereaux. He was awarded the Australian Film Institute AFI Award in 1988. He was married two times and had 4 children. His notable works include True Believers (1988), Scotch on the Rocks (1973), and Skippy (1968-1970). He lived in the United Kingdom for many years and appeared in several films of the Carry On series. He came to London in 1950 and began his acting career, moving between Australia and England. He died in Hampstead, London, on December 17, 2003 of esophageal cancer and kidney failure.
