Irish-American actress, born on August 28, 1895, in Glenlohane, Kanturk, County Cork, Ireland. She began her career in radio working for the BBC in the United Kingdom. She appeared in 88 films and 12 television series from 1928 to 1978. She appeared in the British film What Money Can Buy (1928). Her first American film, Saboteur (1942), was directed by Alfred Hitchcock. She was known for My Name Is Julia Ross (1945), Saboteur (1942), and The Lost Weekend (1945). She has amassed more than 113 television and film credits, although there were many roles for which she was not credited. She died on June 1, 1985, in North Miami, Florida, USA.
