An American actor from a Chinese merchant family, born in Sacramento, California, USA, on October 10, 1916. He was married to actress Maylia Fong (1946-1987), they had 5 children, and she stayed with him until his death. Among his works are The Keys of the Kingdom (1944), Flower Drum Song (1961), and The Shanghai Cobra (1945). He died in Los Angeles, California, USA, on August 1, 1987, of a stroke. After graduating from high school in Sacramento, he studied briefly in China, afterwards he returned to Sacramento and opened a grocery store with his cousin. He was scouted by Paramount, to play the roles of meek East Asians, and sometimes the roles of Japanese villains in the time of World War II. He also played the role of the number 3 son of detective Charlie Chan in 6 films.
