Before entering the acting field, Arantes was an...Read more accomplished swimmer, winning several medals, including four medals at the Universiades (1977 and 1981). He married Valéria Gianini Bianco and Adriana Junqueira Schmidt, with whom he had two children, including actor Rómulo Arantes Neto. He died in a plane crash on June 10, 2000, in Minas Gerais, Brazil.
