A British actor and writer, born on March 11, 1926, in Bradford, West Riding of Yorkshire, England, UK. His credits include Lifeforce (1985), Hetty Wainthropp Investigates (1996), and The Brothers (1972). He was married to Susan Lyall Grant. Derek was trained at RADA. He first worked on allied forces radio during military service in WWII. He also wrote over thirty plays, starting in 1953. He received his education at Bingley Grammar School. Benfield was the author of the play "Running Riot." He died on March 10, 2009, in Esher, Surrey, England, UK.
