A Brazilian percussionist, born in Santa Catarina, Southern Brazil. He received his bachelor's degree in percussion from São Paulo State University in 1990 and moved to New York City in 1992 to pursue further education. He graduated from the Manhattan School of Music with a master's degree in percussion in 1994. He is best known for working with singer David Byrne and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. He is a member of the giant experimental group Atoms for Peace. He was also briefly a member of the Dirty Projectors. Since 2019, he has appeared as one of the main musicians on the Broadway show, American Utopia, featuring David Byrne and his music.
