He was a British actor, born on January 1, 1891, in Liverpool, England. He graduated from Manchester University. He appeared in various TV, theater, and cinema productions. He also directed plays and adapted historical plays for modern theatre. He is known for Gaslight (1940), The Good Companions (1933), and Hobson's Choice (1931). Pettingell died on February 17, 1966, in London, England.
