British actress, born in Cheshire, England, on April 24, 1933. Claire excelled in the roles of elderly women. She taught in schools before appearing on screen. Her notable works, include: The Elephant Man (1980), Doctor Who (1964), and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983). She died in London, on February 25, 2002 of kidney failure.
