British actress, born in Edmonton, London, on June 9, 1884. Hilda presented comedy and drama in cinema and television, and she excelled in the roles of old ladies and grandmothers. Her film debut was Frieda (1947), and her last was The Snow Queen (1976). Among her notable works: The Railway Children (1951), Carry on Loving (1970) and John of the Fair (1954). She died in Islington, London, on May 29, 1979, at the age of 94.
