British actress, singer, dancer and comedian, born in Wales, United Kingdom on March 1, 1905 as Doris Breamer Hare. She was married to John Fraser Roberts (1941-1973) and they had two children before their divorce. She was awarded the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1946 for her services to the Navy during World War II through her radio work. She began working in concert halls and pantomimes, then became a popular comedian in theater and screen. She was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company from 1963, and continued to work at The London Palladium Theater until she was 87 years old. Among her notable works are Second Best (1994), On the Buses (1969) and The Avengers (1961). She died in Northwood, London, England, on May 30, 2000.
