American actress born on 14 December 1902 in Manhattan, New York, US. She attended Columbia University and AADA and worked in Broadway from 1925 till 1951. Her most notable works in film include The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), The Andy Griffith Show (1960), Man in the Attic (1953), and The Stooge (1951). She married Russel Carpenter (1928-1933). She died of a heart attack on 6 December 1989 in Siler City, North Carolina, US.
