An American music composer and actor, born in Arvern, Queens, New York City, USA, on June 28, 1902, as Richard Charles Rodgers. He married actress Dorothy Rodgers (1930-1979), they had two children, and she stayed with him until his death. He won the Academy Award for Best Music, Original Song for State Fair (1945), the Primetime Emmy in 1962, and the Grammy Award three times. His credits include The Postman (1997), State Fair (1945), The Sound of Music (1965), and The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999). He died in New York City, New York, USA, on December 30, 1979.
