British actor, born in Enfield, Middlesex, England, on March 15, 1901. He worked extensively in film, theater, radio and television, often playing the role of villains. He served in the army and then emigrated to Australia and worked in agriculture, then as a commercial artist, before becoming an actor. Among his important works: Brighton Rock (1948), Typhoon Treasure (1938), and Vengeance of the Deep (1938). He died in Melbourne, Australia on August 3, 1988.
