A Hungarian actress, born in the Austro-Hungarian Empire on July 6, 1906. Mary Tarcai was married to producer and writer Arthur H. Singer, who remained with her until he died in 1978, and they did not have children. She is best known for The Argyle Secrets (1948) and Hallmark...Read more Hall of Fame (1952). Tarcai immigrated to the United States of America when she was a child. She grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and later on, she was trained at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York City. She worked in New York's theaters, then went to Atlantic City, established her own theater, and presented her own shows, after which she went to Hollywood and worked with the Actors' Laboratory Theatre for 7 years, and also worked as an assistant to several directors. In 1955, she returned to New York and started to teach acting. She taught many actors who went on to become stars, most notably Shirley MacLaine. Mary Tarcai passed away in Cleveland, Ohio, United States, on September 22, 1979, at the age of 73.
