A British novelist, born on October 22, 1919, in Kermanshah, Iran. She was appointed Companion of Honour (CH) in the Queen's 2000 Millennium Honours List for her services to literature. Lessing allegedly rejected both an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in 1977 and a damehood in 1993. She was awarded the 2007 Nobel Prize in Literature and was the oldest person to receive the award in this category. She was the mother of John Wisdom, Jean Wisdom, and Peter Lessing. Her credits include Adore (2013), Maupassant (1963), and Memoirs of a Survivor (1981). She was previously married to Gottfried Anton Nicolai Lessing and Frank Charles Wisdom. She died on November 17, 2013, in London, England, United Kingdom.
