An American film and stage actress, born in Trenton, New Jersey, USA, on May 17, 1896. She married airline manager Basil de Guichard (1932-1958) and was the daughter of a newspaper editor and music critic. She is known for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), Where the Sidewalk...Read more Ends (1950) and A Slight Case of Murder (1938). For 6 decades, she worked in theater, film, and television. Ruth debuted in 1913, and in 1917, she appeared on Broadway and was coached by actress Rose Stahl. In 1914, she appeared in some silent films and presented the roles of a cunning wife, secretary, or girlfriend. After retiring from cinema in 1957, she worked on television until the mid-sixties then dedicated herself to writing songs and singing. She died in New York, USA on November 17, 1982.
