She was an American actress, born on May 20, 1899, in Urbana, Illinois, USA. She attended the University of Illinois for two years and earned her degree from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. She launched her career at the end of the silent film era. She portrayed older ladies throughout most of her career, which lasted for six decades, even while she was in her twenties. She performed in various productions such as plays, TV, and radio, and was well known for her one-woman show, Americana Sketches, in which she presented over 6600 performances over 15 years. In the late 1950s, she appeared in many commercials. Among her notable works are Topper (1937), The Thin Man Goes Home (1944), and Registered Nurse (1934). She was married to Sam Wren, with whom she had two children. She died at the age of 93 from heart failure on August 23, 1992, in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA.
