He was an Argentinian–Cuban writer, biochemist, and cinematographer. He was born on August 8, 1922, in Hernando, Córdoba Province, Argentina. He is known for writing The Motorcycle Diaries (2004) and for his self-appearances in Che: muerte de la utopia? (1999) and La huella del doctor Ernesto Guevara (2013). He was married to Delia Maria Duque Duque until he passed away on March 5, 2011 in Havana, Cuba, at the age of 88.
