An American actor, singer, songwriter and pianist, born in Rock Island, Illinois, USA, on February 20, 1937, as David Thomas Ackles. His father was a musician and his mother was from a family of musical artists of English descent. He studied English literature at the University of Southern California, studied the origins of the English language at the University of Edinburgh, and obtained a master's degree in film studies from USC. He appeared as a child actor in six of the eight films in Columbia Pictures' Rusty children's film series made from 1945 to 1949. He formed a singing duo with his sister, when they were children, and they worked in vaudeville, and they sang folk songs. He recorded four albums, and composed musicals, ballet scores and choral pieces. He's known for Yella (2007), Word of Honor (1981) and The Return of Rusty (1946). He died in Pasadena, California, USA, on March 2, 1999, of lung cancer.
