A British actor, born in London, England, UK as Matthew Reginald Sheffield Cassan. He was a child actor in silent cinema since the age of twelve, and in 1914, he went to the United States with his mother and worked on Broadway and in silent cinema. In 1929, he moved to Hollywood and played a series of supporting roles in talkies. He married Louise Sheffield Cassan (1927-1957), they had three children, and she remained with him until his death. Among his notable works are David Copperfield (1913), The Story of Mankind (1957), and Of Human Bondage (1934). He died in Pacific Palisades, California, USA on December 8, 1957, at age 56.
