English writer, born in London, England. At 19, she attended University College London for two years, majoring in journalism. She got married to the actor Allan Bourne in 1933 and they had a daughter, Laura. She had many literary works, but her first work was the novel Cold Comfort Farm, which was adapted into a movie and a series. She passed away on December 19, 1989, in London at the age of 87.
