An American character actor, born in Frankfort, Illinois, USA, on November 15, 1902, as John Samuel Ingram. He married Eloise Fullerton (1944-1969), with whom she remained until his death. He was a former law student at the University of Texas. He began his career in a traveling theater company, and he also performed stunts, dealing with horses and cars, before appearing in front of the camera. He often played the villain in Columbia Westerns and serials. Among his notable works are Federal Operator 99 (1945), Superman (1948) and Young Bill Hickok (1940). He died in Canoga Park, California, USA, on February 20, 1969, of a heart attack.
