Kirk Alyn was the first to play Superman on screen. He began his career as a chorus boy for Broadway musicals and also worked as a singer and dancer in vaudeville before moving to Hollywood in the forties. He got small roles in low-budget B films, then he served in the United States Navy during World War II, and after the war, he got the role of Superman, which he played in a number of productions from 1948 to 1950, then he appeared in a number of film serials. He died at the age of 88 in The Woodlands, Texas, USA, on March 14, 1999, of Alzheimer’s disease.
