A British actor of cinema, television, and theater, born in Liverpool, England, United Kingdom. He went to school in Kent, trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), and worked in theater in England and South Africa. He frequently played the roles of clergymen, doctors, or magistrates. Among his notable works are Patriot Games (1992), Gandhi (1982), and Frenzy (1972). He was married to actress Deirdre Benner (1967-1999), who remained with him until her death. He died on December 11, 2014, in London, England, at age 89.
