A German actor and director, born in Zwingenberg, Hesse, Germany. He worked for a while on the radio, then made his screen debut in Das goldene Bett (1913). He is known for M (1931) and Metropolis (1927). He received his sole directorial credit in The Sporck Battalion (1934). He died on June 27, 1954, in Stuttgart, Germany.
