A Russian actress, born in Moscow, Russia as Anastasiya Aleksandrovna Vertinsk. She married actor, director and writer Nikita Mikhalkov (1967-1970) and had one child before they divorced. She began her acting career at the age of 15, and graduated in 1967 from the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute. She played supporting and leading roles in cinema, television and theater, and was a member of many theatrical companies in Moscow. In the nineties, she traveled abroad to teach acting, and spent 12 years in France, England, the United States and Switzerland. She was awarded the People's Artist of Russia in 1988, the Order of Honour in 2005, and the Order of Friendship in 2010. Among her notable works are Gamlet (1964), Chelovek-amfibiya (1962) and Anna Karenina (1967).
