• A German-American actress and singer, born in Hamburg, Germany. At the age of six, she started taking ballet lessons, and by the time she was twenty, she was performing in musicals...Read more and going out to clubs before making appearances in movies. Before relocating to Britain in 1936, she worked in German theater. She then proceeded to Hollywood, where she kept her old name and concentrated on theater and Hitchcock movies. In 1975, she was honored with the German Film Honorary Award for her enduring contributions to German cinema. She married twice and had one daughter. Her notable works include Scampolo Einstein Kind der Straße (1932), Der Ball (1931), Main Street to Broadway (1953), and I Confess (1953). She passed away in East Harlem, Manhattan, New York, USA, on September 16, 1994, from ovarian cancer at the age of 84.
