A Canadian playwright and film screenwriter of Scottish descent, born in Centre Wellington, Ontario, Canada. Forbes was educated at the Galt Collegiate Institute and Vocational School. In 1892, he became a US citizen. He began his career as a stage actor, and in the 1920s, he started working as a screenwriter in Hollywood. His notable works include The Chorus Lady (1915), Bachelor's Affairs (1932), Their Own Desire (1929), and The Traveling Salesman (1916). He got married once and had one child. James Forbes died of heart disease on May 26, 1938, in Frankfurt am Main, Hesse, Germany.
