He is an Australian writer born in Melbourne, Australia. He studied at the University of Melbourne. He is known for The Slap (2011), Blessed (2009), Head On (1998), and Little Tornadoes (2021). He shared the 2009 Winner Awgie Award at the Australian Writers' Guild for Feature Film-Adaptation for Blessed (2009).
