Canadian actor, born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, as Elystan Owen Evan Thomas. He was married to the actress Sylvia Leslie (1922-1940), and their marriage ended in divorce. His career spanned from the era of silent cinema to the era of sound cinema. He began his career in England with Oscar Wilde's film Lady Windermere's Fan (1916), and in the early 1930s, he headed to the US to work in Hollywood cinema. He returned permanently to Britain in the mid-fifties, to work in cinema and television. He is known for The Girl from Maxim's (1933), Lady Windermere's Fan (1916), and Mrs. Dane's Defence (1933). He died in 1982 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England, UK.
