He was a French novelist and playwright, born in Kortenberg, Belgium. He studied at the Catholic University of Louvain. His writing debut for the screen was I tre ladri (1954). He is known for Body of My Enemy (1976), The Seven Deadly Sins (1962), and Miss Shumway Goes West (1963). His last work was L'homme en question (2004). In 1969, he received a Prix Goncourt for his book Creezy. He died at the age of 98 on March 7, 2012, in France.
