An American actress, born in Los Angeles, California, USA, as Mary Carvellas. She was also a professor at the theatre department at the University of Southern California. Her career spanned more than 60 years. She graduated from Hollywood High School and City College, and her first appearance was on Broadway in 1951. She won the 1986 Drama Logue Award for Outstanding Performance for A Christmas Memory. She married director Joseph Sargent (1952-1968), they had two children, and their marriage ended in divorce. Some of her notable works are Arachnophobia (1990), Simon & Simon (1981), and The Rockford Files (1974). She died in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA on October 18, 2013, at the age of 89.
