An American actor, born in Mansfield, Ohio, USA as Robert Frank Simon. He trained at the Actors Studio, then spent 10 years in Broadway theaters (1942-1952) as an actor and theater director, presenting dramas and musical comedies. He began working in cinema in 1950, and he often played stereotypical roles in cinema and television and presented the roles of policemen, journalists, and lawyers. He married Barbara Them (1940-1974), they had four children, and she remained with him until her death. Some of his notable works are Operation Petticoat (1959), The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962), and The Buccaneer (1958). He died of a heart attack in Tarzana, Los Angeles, California, USA, on November 29, 1992, at the age of 83.
