A Mexican actor, born in Mexico, Distrito Federal, Mexico, as Manuel Placido Mendoza Rodriguez. He was a leading man during the golden age of Mexican films, and he also appeared in Hollywood and European films. He studied at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and worked as a vacuum cleaner salesman to support himself. He met actress Lina Boytler, who introduced him to her husband, the famous Russian producer and film director Arcady Boytler, who helped him launch his career. He married Maria del Villar, who remained with him until his death. Among his notable works are Talpa (1956), Santa (1943) and Cuando lloran los valientes (1947). He died in Mexico, Distrito Federal, Mexico, on July 19, 1995, due to respiratory failure, at the age of 81.
