An Italian-English actor, circus clown, impressionist and writer, born in Milan, Italy to a traveling circus family of French origin. He was the most famous clown on British television. He worked in Blackpool, England, for 39 years. His father and children were also clowns, and his wife was from a family of French clowns. His career spanned 4 decades, and he worked in German, British and American cinema and television, and he was also a pantomime actor. He married Violette Fratellini (1934-1980), they had three children, and she remained with him until his death. Among his credits are The Little and Large Show (1978), The Ed Sullivan Show (1948) and Happidrome (1943). He died in Blackpool, Lancashire, England, UK on February 17, 1980, at age 70.
