Director Kammila Abou Zekry will soon begin shooting the series “Zatt” which adapts a novel by the same name authored by San’a Allah Ibrahim. The series is produced by Gabby Khoury in a collaborative effort with British network BBC and the Media and Television Union. Screenwriter Maryam Na’oum is currently concluding work on the screenplay which starts the story in 1952 and continues until sometime in the late 1980s. However it is expected that the events of the screenplay will be extended all the way into 2011, the year in which “Zatt”, the leading character of the production dies. The production features 3 other characters who are named A’bd Al Mageed, Al Shanqeety and Samiha. Nelly Kareem will be cast in the leading role of the production. Worthy of note is that Nelly had previously worked with the screenwriter on “Wahid Sifr” (“One, Zero”) which received several awards and honors.Kamilla Abou Zekry stated “Work on this production provides a different and somewhat difficult challenge due to the fact that the work looks at society’s progression through a period of 60 years. Moreover, the story itself is complicated. We are currently in the writing and preparation stage and I feel quite anxious due to the fact that the real star of this work is history itself. The work treats a few historical episodes that are packed with events which I myself did not experience firsthand. One such episode is the “Open Door” period. I was a child at the time and thus couldn’t understand what was happening. Thus I have benefited substantially from learning about those periods.”
