Faten Hammama: Egypt is not a “Garbage Dump”

Renowned performer Faten Hammama has expressed her frustration with regards to the recent proliferation of movies that treat the topic of slum districts in Egypt. In an interview with journalist Ahmed Al Mouslimany, Hammama stated: “There is no objection to their being films that discuss the topic of slum districts and crime (in Cairo), but there should also be films that present a respectable and honorable (image of Egypt) so that Egypt’s image abroad is not that of a ‘garbage dump’.”Thereafter the renowned actress added the following with regards to her opinion of the present state of Egyptian society: “Severe congestion is the root cause of aggressive behavior within our society and thus the remedy for society’s behavior lies in a solution to the state of congestion.”
