Due to the extraordinary circumstances which Egypt has witnessed as of late and in particular the rejection of many Egyptian actors of Zakky’s call for support of the reigning regime, the head of the Actor’s Syndicate Ashraf Zakky has submitted his resignation on Wednesday morning. Zakky issued a statement to his colleagues in which he wrote “I thank you for the previous period in which we worked together for the interests of the Acting Syndicate. I have submitted my resignation.”Ashraf Zakky had previously called for actors to join pro-Mubarak demonstrations. That call was rejected by many performers who instead issued a statement in support of the revolution which seeks to oust the present regime.
