Beginning at noon, actors began marching on Tahrir from the gates of the Filmmakers’ Syndicate. The actors intend to join the sit-in held by protesters at Tahrir who seek the ousting of the present regime.A large number of performers are taking part in the march on Tahrir, most of whom signed “The statement of the 109 Actors” which declared their support for the revolution and their solidarity with the public. The march was led by Khaled al-Sawwy and Khaled Abou al-Nagga who led protesters down streets headed to Tahrir. Renowned directors Yousry Nasr Allah and Daoud ‘Abd Al Sayyid were also present in the March along with other performers who had joined processions going down various downtown streets while calling on others to join them. These events came as a response to a call issued on Friday the 28th of January by performers who had joined the sit-in at Tahrir earlier. Part of their announcement read: “Filmmakers and actors who have joined the sit-in at Tahrir square call on all the other noble filmmakers, actors, musicians, writers, and intellectuals to join a procession which will begin at the Filmmakers’ Syndicate and head to Tahrir Square on noon, Thursday the 10th of February.”
