A great amount of criticism was directed at artist Leyla E’lwy for her lack of comment during the outbreak of the revolution, a silence which is thought by some to be related to the fact that she had close relations to the family of ousted president Hosny Mubarak and to the fact that she is married to businessman Mansour al-Gamal who is thought by some to also have close ties to Mubarak. Despite criticisms for her silence Leyla E’lwy has visited some of the casualties of the revolution at a hospital which is treating them. She has also donated an amount of two thousand pounds to the families of each of the injured as a contribution to their treatment.
