Filmmaker Salah Mare’y passes away following a robust career

Salah Mare’y, a renowned filmmaker and among the most respected set design authorities in the Arab World has passed away today morning. Mare’y had earned himself the recognition for being among the most important of Egyptian and Arab filmmakers. He had been trained under Shady ‘Abd Al Salam and had indeed collaborated with him on the design and graphics for the film title “Ikhwatan” (“Sisters”) which has not yet completed production. Salah has also taken part in implementing the design and props for the film title “al-Mummyaa” (“The Mummy”).Salah Mare’y began his career in the early sixties and presented numerous film titles which include “Ughnya ‘ala al-Mammar” (“A Song on the Path”), “Abnaa al-Sammt” (“Children of Slence”), “Ziyarrat al-Sayyid al-Raees” (“A Visit from the President”), “Qalil men al-Houbb, al-Katheer men al-‘Ounf” (“Little Love, Lots of Violence”), “’Afareet al-Asfal” and “Baheb el-Seema” (“I Love the Cinema”).Salah’s works earned him many prizes and certificates of recognition, the most recent of which was the award for best set design for 2008. He was also professor of set design and history of architecture at the Cinema Institute.
