Director Magdy Ahmed ‘Aly has commenced film work on his latest title, “al-Meedan”, which focuses on the January Revolt several days ago. In an interview with the Rose al-Youssif newspaper Magdy has stated that the film will relate the story of the revolution through a human narrative and will conclude with the moment when Mubarak stepped down amid celebrations by Egypt’s people.Magdy has also added that the film will relate the story of a real character – Doctor Tariq Helmy – who works as a heart surgeon. Due to the critical nature of his work, Helmy, like many other doctors, is focused on his patients and is quite detached from the world around him. A change occurs with the beginning of large scale demonstrations on the 25th of January and the doctor subsequently decides to join demonstrators at Tahrir in order to add his voice to that of youths calling for reform and freedom. The doctor is later joined by his wife and children and after he notices the injured at Tahrir Square he decides to volunteer his services to help them.“al-Meedan” is directed by Magdy Ahmed ‘Aly. Ahmed ‘Abd Al ‘Aziz, Noha al-‘Amrousy, Mona Hala and Ahmed Magdy took part in writing and performing the film.
